On the home page of our website and the Fine Print section on booking.com (or the important information section on mobiles), we advertise before booking that the room rate and the fully refundable £30/room deposit is charged at the time of booking.
It is not possible for anyone to make a booking without paying the deposit and room rate by card online.

Deposits are refunded on the day of departure.
We found deposits reach most accounts by midnight, but it can take up to 72 hours.
All bookings can only be made online and the deposit requirement makes the place a lot safer.
The deposit also allows us to offer lower room rates and saves time during check-in. It is customary for most reputable places to require either a deposit or pre-authorisation. Pre-authorisations take longer to return the money than our deposit system.
